D.O.T. Gives Advice To Truckers & D.O.T.

Trooper Hoover DOT

D.O.T. GIVES ADVICE TO TRUCKERS & D.O.T.. Recently a truck driver was pulled over in Massachusetts with a faulty wheel on his semi truck. He was missing several lug nuts which is a hazard. He was put out of service and out of danger. There has been several accidents in the past few years involving loose wheels on tractor-trailers. When a wheel breaks free from a moving rig, it can cause major damage and even be deadly. In August of 2019 a truck driver on Interstate 75 lost a set of tandem wheels that traveled across the medium and stuck and killed a 36 year old woman. The driver was charged with the following:

  • Homicide by vehicle in 2nd degree
  • unsafe vehicle or equipment
  • defective tires

Truck Drivers Responsibility

Ultimately a truck driver is the last to inspect his rig before he gets behind the wheel. When a trucker is involved in an accident because of faulty equipment, he will be the only one holding blame. He is the captain of the ship and there is not a person back at the terminal that will stand up and take blame for the driver moving an unsafe semi truck. So start acting like you are in charge of the truck you drive drivers. Make it a habit to fully inspect your truck before you drive it every time! You will be the one held accountable for any bad outcome. Your inspection should always include the lug nuts. If there are any missing then write it up and get it fixed. You will go to prison if it turns fatal.
