Truck Speed

Trucking History. Yesterdays Truckers. Truckers not only had a rough ride but they also had very slow trucks. Trucks topped out at a whopping 15mph. Yes I did say that! For every 10 hours you drove you covered 150 miles and thats if you were able to keep your foot in it. I don’t think cruise control had been invented yet so they also had to keep their foot in it the entire time. If you do the math, back then a trip from California to Philadelphia PA is roughly 2700 miles. At 15mph that would be 180 hours and of course if your truck does 15mph you might actually average maybe 10 mph with stopping and going so the trip would take approximately 6 weeks for the one way trip. It would be about a 3 month round trip. How is that for dedication to the job? Tune in to this weeks episode and let us know what you think about the history of yesterdays trucker.
